Celebrating Leesburg’s Historic Charm Through Letterpress Printing

Sagetopia has been dying to put our Reprex letterpress back to work! As designers, we love the beauty and process of a handcrafted letterpress print — from choosing the perfect paper, mixing the ink, and getting the impression just right, to finally admiring the finished piece. There’s something deeply satisfying about seeing your hard work come to life in such a tangible way.

Letterpress prints have a special, elegant look and feel that we can’t get enough of — the process of pressing an inked plate into paper creates a debossed impression you can actually see and feel. It’s a tactile experience that digital printing just can’t replicate — and one we’re always excited to return to when the right project comes along.

At Sagetopia, we’re proud to call historic downtown Leesburg home. Inspired by the charm that surrounds us every day, we decided to create art that pays tribute to the place we love. Our team designed a poster featuring custom illustrations of some of Leesburg’s most iconic historic buildings. We sent the final artwork to Boxcar Press to produce the polymer plates for printing. Then we rolled up our sleeves and put our letterpress skills to work, printing a limited run of the posters.

We chose two beautiful cream and baby blue papers, mixed a rich brown ink, and got to work. [insert GIF of paper rolling through press]

This project was both a creative passion and a celebration of craftsmanship — combining traditional techniques with our team's modern design sensibilities. It felt good to slow things down, get our hands dirty, and celebrate the place we’re proud to call home.
